New Low Vision Clinic in North Bristol now open for bookings
Some exciting news – Sight Support have been working with the University of the West of England (UWE) on the opening of a new Low Vision Clinic on the UWE Glenside campus in Fishponds, north Bristol. The clinic will be open for low vision assessments every Tuesday, starting on November 3rd 2020. The new clinic will provide extra capacity for low vision assessments in the region, supplementing the current provision at Bristol Eye Hospital for which there is currently a long waiting list.
Low vision assessments will be free-of-charge and conducted by a qualified Optometrist. A Sight Loss Advisor from Sight Support will work alongside the Optometrist to ensure clients have access to advice, guidance and support on resources and daily living after the assessment. This is an exciting opportunity to provide a joined-up service in the new clinic, combining both the professional assessment and support and advice services.
As the new clinic will be a teaching clinic, the qualified Optometrist may have trainees observing alongside them, and some examinations may also be performed by the trainees under close supervision. As with all health settings, the clinic is well set-up to keep clients safe, with all staff operating with full PPE.
We are starting to take bookings now for appointments from the beginning of November - if you would like to make an appointment for a low vision assessment, please call Sight Support on 0117 322 4885. Appointments are open to anyone across the region who can get to the clinic in Bristol. Please note that an up-to-date sight test will be required before the low vision assessment can take place. The clinic at UWE can also provide a sight test if required.
