Sight Support has been created to provide a new approach to delivering consistent good quality, and high impact services at a local level across the West of England.  Alongside providing on the ground direct services driven by the needs of blind and partially sighted people, we will also work with national and local partners to implement national strategy, research and priorities, in a way which is meaningful to the local communities.

Our strategic aims can be summarized under the following areas:

Information Advice and Support

We will..........

  • Work with people with sight loss of all ages and their families and carers throughout their sight loss journey
  • Provide relevant, up to date information appropriate to an individual’s needs and aspirations
  • Provide services and signpost to others that are relevant to the needs of the individual, giving increased choice.
  • Offer emotional and practical support in a timely and relevant manner

Independent Living and Technology

We will.....

  • Provide opportunities for new and lifelong learning
  • Work with individuals in their community
  • Make full use of advances in technology and research to enhance the lives of people with sight loss and explore new options as they develop
  • Offer practical solutions to create greater independence
  • Create opportunities for volunteering and employment

Engagement, Training and Advocacy

We will......

  • Deliver good quality services that empower, inspire, and enable individuals their families and their communities
  • Create peer to peer support networks and encourage and facilitate peer and self-advocacy
  • Work with national initiatives to provide a real voice for Blind and Partially Sighted People in their communities
  • Provide a range of training opportunities for people with sight loss and their local communities to give a better understanding and address inequalities

Collaborations, Partnerships and Development

We will.........

  • Actively seek opportunities for collaborative working to improve services, support and opportunities for individuals with Sight loss
  • Work closely with other agencies to reduce duplication of service, provide a better service and promote good practice that leads to positive outcomes for the individual and their families
  • Actively seek out ways to simplify the support system for people with sight loss, who are often unable to determine who to approach for the correct support
  • Work with national and regional organisations to promote, deliver and implement the priorities held within the England Vision Strategy in an innovative, localised and practical way
