Important COVID-19 Announcement

We are following government advice regarding social distancing and have taken steps to support the safety and welfare of our clients and team.  All drop-ins and socials are suspended until further notice, we are operating an appointment only service. As a result, many of our usual volunteering roles are suspended until further notice.

However, we do still really need you!

We are looking for friendly and confident volunteers to join our new Telephone Befriending Service to provide a welcome voice and emotional support to local people living with sight loss during this critical period. Feeling isolated is a common challenge for people with sight loss, and recent restrictions on personal contact compound the situation even more for those living alone. A friendly voice on the phone on a regular basis can make a huge difference to someone’s emotional wellbeing and ability to access local support and services.

You can find details in the role description below, and also an application form if you are interested in applying.

Lady chatting on phone
“I've learnt a huge amount about how sight loss can change your life, but I did not realise how volunteering would add an extra dimension to my own life. I’ve loved every minute!”
“My confidence was quite low before I started helping in the office, but in no time at all, I had refreshed old skills and my confidence was restored. I have now returned to work with renewed confidence and having made some new friends along the way!”
