About this hub

This Community Sight Loss Hub takes place on the second Wednesday of each month.

• Drop in between 1pm and 2:30pm
• Appointments are also available outside of this time. Please contact us to book.
• 1pm and 2:30pm – Friendly social group.

Friends, family members, and carers are very welcome.

This monthly Community Sight Loss Hub offers local sight loss advice, digital skills support, and a friendly social group for blind and partially sighted people and those supporting them. It is suitable whether you have been blind or partially sighted for a long time, are newly diagnosed, or are supporting someone else. People attend for different reasons, from practical advice or digital support to joining the social group or meeting others locally.

Advice and support from your Community Sight Loss Advisor

At this hub, your local Community Sight Loss Advisor offers practical, personalised advice to help you manage daily life and understand your options. They can:

• Demonstrate equipment to support everyday tasks
• Offer tips for managing at home or when out and about
• Explain eye conditions, registration, and certification
• Discuss reading options with sight loss
• Share local and online social opportunities
• Provide advice on finances and employment
• Introduce magnifiers and electronic equipment
• Explain our services and signpost to other organisations

A friendly social group

The hub also includes a relaxed, volunteer led social group. You are welcome to drop in for a cuppa, have a chat, or spend time with others who understand sight loss.

Digital Skills Support Service

Technology can make everyday tasks easier, from reading letters and checking travel information to staying in touch with friends and family.

At this hub, our Digital Skills Advisor offers one to one digital skills support tailored to you. They can:

• Help you get online and feel more confident using technology
• Introduce accessibility features such as magnification, voice control, and screen readers
• Demonstrate smartphones, tablets, and other devices
• Explore useful apps for reading, navigation, and communication
• Support you at your own pace, focusing on what matters most to you
