Information & advice
We know that everyone’s experience of sight loss is different. That’s why we take time to understand your needs and offer advice that works for you – whether it’s practical tips, emotional support, or help finding the right technology.

Information and advice tailored to you
If you or someone you know is living with sight loss, we’re here to help. Whether you’ve just been diagnosed or have been living with sight loss for some time, our team is ready to provide friendly, expert support.
You can contact us with questions big or small – from understanding your eye condition to managing day-to-day tasks, exploring assistive technology or finding emotional support. Whether you need help with one thing or several, we usually start with a full Sight Loss Assessment to explore your situation and make sure the support we offer is right for you. Our advice is always free, impartial and tailored to your individual needs.
Support in your community
We offer face-to-face advice at our monthly Community Sight Loss Advice Hubs, held across the regions we cover and most people live within five miles of one. These welcoming sessions are a chance to speak with a trained Sight Loss Advisor, access practical information, and connect with others.
Our Advisors bring a varied selection of daily living aids and low vision equipment with them to each hub. These may include:
- Liquid level indicators and talking kitchen gadgets
- Eyeshields and portable lighting
- Talking clocks and watches
- Handheld and electronic magnifiers
- Writing guides and easy-to-see pens
- Large print calendars, crossword books and games
- Tactile marking aids such as Bumpons
- Visually impaired awareness items like symbol canes, lanyards and lapel pins
- Demonstrations of Synapptic on a smartphone
- Screen reader and magnification software on a laptop
Visit a Resource Centre
If it’s more convenient, or you’d like to see a wider selection of equipment in one place, you can book an appointment at one of our Resource Centres in Bristol, Thornbury, Cheltenham, Devizes, Trowbridge or Salisbury.
Our Centres include everything available at our community hubs, along with some larger items that are not practical to bring on the road – such as desktop CCTV magnifiers, a broader range of canes, and larger kitchen gadgets.
What we can help with
Through our hubs and Resource Centres, we can support you with:
- Adjusting to sight loss and managing at home
- Staying mobile and getting out and about
- Finding local services, support groups or social activities
- Using technology to stay connected and independent
- Looking after your wellbeing
- Exploring employment, education or volunteering opportunities
We can also refer you to other services or support networks if that would be helpful.
Trusted advice from an experienced team
Some of our team members live with sight loss themselves, and all of them have experience supporting blind and partially sighted people. We’ll always take time to understand what matters to you and support you in a way that feels right for your situation.
