Explore free digital support for people with sight loss – from beginner sessions to confidence-building courses and discovery drop-ins.

Did you know a smartphone or tablet can be a powerful tool – especially if you’re living with sight loss? Whether you’re completely new to technology or already using a device and want to do more, we offer a range of free, friendly sessions to help you feel more confident, connected and in control.

From staying in touch with family and friends to navigating public transport or listening to audiobooks, smart devices can make everyday life easier in ways you might not expect. But we know that getting started can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re unsure how to use touchscreens, worry about making mistakes, or haven’t had the chance to try accessible features.

That’s where we come in. Our Digital Skills Advisor can offer step-by-step support in a relaxed setting, tailored to your needs and experience. Whether you prefer one-to-one guidance or the support of a small group, we’ll help you discover what works best for you.


Smart Discovery Sessions – August

Curious about smartphones but don’t yet have one?
Our Smart Discovery Sessions offer a relaxed, no-pressure way to explore what’s possible. Held during our community hubs, these short one-hour sessions will introduce you to digital assistants and helpful apps like Seeing AI.

We understand tech can feel overwhelming, but you’re not locked out. Come and have a go, ask questions, and explore how these tools could work for you.

Locations include: Wroughton, Devizes, Calne, Pewsey, Trowbridge, Corsham, Chippenham, Amesbury, Salisbury, Tisbury.

Beginners Course – September 2025

Learn how to use a smartphone or tablet in a small, supportive group. This free course is designed for people with sight loss who want to start from the beginning and build confidence at their own pace.

You’ll discover just how useful smart devices can be – for staying in touch, managing everyday tasks and accessing the world around you.

You’ll learn:

  • How to use accessibility features
  • Messaging and emails
  • Using voice assistants
  • Helpful apps for daily life

If you feel nervous or unsure, that’s completely normal. Our sessions are friendly, flexible, and tailored to your needs.

Course dates and times:

  • Swindon – Mondays (TBC)
  • Devizes – Tuesdays, 9, 16, 23 September – 10.30am–12.30pm
  • Trowbridge – Wednesdays, 10, 17, 24 September – 10.30am–12:30pm
  • Salisbury – Fridays, 12, 19, 26 September – 1pm–3pm

Improvers Course – October 2025

Already using a device but want to do more with it?
Our Improvers Course is ideal if you’d like a refresher or want to build on what you already know. Sessions cover a range of topics to help you stay connected, shop safely online, and use navigation tools with confidence.

Whether you’re looking to try something new or just need a boost, we’ll help you take the next step with friendly, tailored support.

Topics may include:

  • Reading audiobooks and using screenreaders
  • Travel, maps and navigation
  • Video calls, voice notes and sharing photos

Course dates and times:

  • Swindon – Tuesdays (TBC)
  • Trowbridge – Wednesdays, 15, 22, 29 October – 10.30am–12:30pm
  • Devizes – Thursdays, 16, 23, 30 October – 10.30am–12.30pm
  • Salisbury – Fridays, 17, 24, 31 October – 1pm–3pm

Real impact – Margaret’s story

Margaret had never used the internet and wasn’t sure a smartphone was right for her. But after one-to-one support from our Digital Skills Advisor, she discovered how a smart speaker could help her play the radio, stay in touch with family, and even order taxis.
