Employment support
Whether you're worried about staying in your current job, looking for work or thinking about a change of career, support is available.

Our Community Sight Loss Advisors can talk through your circumstances with you, help you explore your options and connect you with further information and specialist support where appropriate.
Worried about staying in work?
If you’ve recently been diagnosed or your sight has changed, you may be wondering what this means for your job. Sight loss doesn’t necessarily mean you have to give up work.
Before making any big decisions about leaving your job, talk to us. There may be support, equipment or workplace adjustments that could help you stay in work. Our Community Sight Loss Advisors can help you explore your options, provide information about support such as Access to Work, and signpost you to further advice where needed.
Looking for work or thinking about a career change?
We work in partnership with Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and its Works For Me programme, a free service supporting blind and partially sighted people who are looking for paid employment or considering a change of career.
Works For Me provides one-to-one support tailored to you and your employment goals. This can include:
- Job search advice
- Help with application forms, CVs and cover letters
- Interview advice and mock interviews
- Career coaching and mentoring
- Referrals to other services, such as counselling, rehabilitation or training, where needed
The Works For Me team may also share relevant opportunities, including internships, webinars and other activities related to employment, education or volunteering. These are shared for information rather than as a recruitment or placement service.
Digital skills and employment
Basic IT skills are important when looking for work, as employment support, learning materials and many job-search and application processes are online.
If you need help building your digital skills or confidence, our Digital Skills Support Service can help you use everyday technology and accessibility features.
As part of Works For Me, TPT can also provide an initial IT skills assessment and employment-related technology advice. Once you’re registered with Works For Me, you can also access TPT’s monthly Let’s Talk Jobs online sessions, which cover technology and other employment topics.
How to get support
Get in touch with us and arrange to speak with a Community Sight Loss Advisor. They’ll talk with you about your circumstances and what you’d like support with and help you identify the right next step.
If you’re looking for work or considering a career change and Works For Me could help, we can refer you to the TPT employment team for specialist one-to-one support.
