Introduction to smart device accessibility – new digital skills course

We are pleased to be launching a new two session Digital Skills course across all three of our partner charities – Sight Support West of England, Wiltshire Sight and Insight Gloucestershire.
An Introduction to Smart Device Accessibility is a friendly and practical course designed to help blind and partially sighted people feel more confident using the accessibility features already built into their smartphone or tablet.
The sessions explore tools such as magnification, contrast settings and voice assistants. You will learn how to use voice commands to send messages, make calls and search for information, and how small adjustments can make everyday tasks easier.
This course is suitable for people who have some usable vision and would benefit from learning how to adjust visual display settings on their device. A separate course focusing on screen readers will be available later in the year.
Courses are running this spring in locations across the regions we cover. In April, sessions will take place in Devizes, Salisbury, Bristol, Kingswood, Gloucester and Cirencester. In May, sessions will be held in Thornbury, Bath, Midsomer Norton, Stroud, Cheltenham, Trowbridge and Swindon.
Places are limited and booking is essential.
Alongside these courses, one to one Digital Skills support continues to be available at many of our Community Sight Loss Advice Hubs. This means people can choose the type of support that feels right for them, whether that is learning in a small group or exploring technology individually.
