Smart glasses at the hubs this July

Come and try out wearable tech that could support daily life with sight loss

This July, we’re bringing something a little different to our community hubs  and you’re invited to come along and give it a go.

Our Digital Inclusion Officers from Sight Support West of England and Wiltshire Sight will be visiting hubs throughout the month to demonstrate a pair of Meta Ray-Ban Smart Glasses – wearable technology that includes features that can be especially helpful for people living with sight loss.

Some examples of what these glasses can do:

  • Read text out loud, such as bus timetables, menus, food labels or even use-by dates on packaging
  • Describe your surroundings
  • Answer questions about what you’re looking at — for example, “What are the chicken options on this menu?”

You’ll have the chance to try them out for yourself, ask questions, and learn more about how this kind of technology could support day-to-day tasks. Even if you’re not very confident with tech, this will be a friendly and informal way to explore what’s possible.

Your local Community Sight Loss Advisor will also be at the hub, offering their usual support during the drop-in hour or by appointment.
