Free directory enquiries (195 service)
If you are blind or partially sighted and find it difficult to read or use a phone book, you may be able to use a free directory enquiries service by dialling 195.

What is the 195 service?
The 195 service allows you to speak to an operator who can find a phone number for you. You can use this service whether or not BT is your phone provider.
Once you are registered for the service, you simply dial 195 and ask the operator for the number you need.
If you ask to be connected to the number, the cost of the call will be the same as if you had dialled it yourself, based on your call package.
Who can use the 195 service?
You may be eligible to register if you cannot read or hold a phone book due to:

sight loss

an impairment, illness, or disability
Other benefits of registering
If you are registered for the 195 service, you will also not be charged the usual call return fees for:

BT 1571
These services are normally charged in addition to call costs.
How to register
To apply, you need to complete an application form.
You can request a form by calling 0800 587 0195.
The registration team is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm.
As part of the application, someone such as a doctor, nurse, or another medical professional who knows you will need to countersign the form.
