Apps That Make a Difference: Public transport apps

Access to public transport, including buses and trains, is important to many blind and partially sighted people. There are many free apps available that can help with planning journeys and finding services when out and about.
Most public transport apps work in a similar way. You enter your starting point and destination, either by typing or using voice input, and the app suggests a range of travel options. When you are already out, your smartphone or tablet can use built-in GPS to help locate nearby bus stops or stations. The app can then show services that will take you to, or close to, your destination.
Most of the apps listed below work on both Android and Apple devices.
